Say aloha to the language teachers at our Hawaii school

The teachers at our Global Village Hawaii English school are great! They have a lot of experience and love their job. Many of them have been teaching here for a long time and have a lot of experience teaching English. Although they are similar in many ways, the teachers also are unique. They come from different places, have different hobbies, and have different language teaching training in IELTS, TOEIC, TOEFL, and Business English. They’re what make our language school in Hawaii special.

Global Village Hawaii is one of the best English language school in Hawaii and our teachers are one of the things which keep our standards high!

We interviewed 4 of our teachers to discover more about them and to find out what great things they bring to our English school in Hawaii.

 

Teacher 1: David

 

 

First, let me introduce to you David. He has worked at Global Village Hawaii for a few years and has a lot of experience preparing students for the TOIEC, TOEFL and IELT exams.

Where are you from?

“I’m from Chicago. I was born and raised there.”

Where have you lived?

“I’ve lived in many places. I’ve lived in Chicago, obviously, New York, Florida, Washington, North Carolina, Hawaii, and South Korea.”

What is your best memory of teaching?

“Probably the first time I taught a class. I had no idea what to expect and completely got destroyed by the high schoolers I was teaching to in South Korea. However, I learned so much from that experience. I learned how to manage the classroom and how to be strict but fun.”

What do you love most about teaching?

“Honestly, I really love seeing people understand a concept then to be able to see them use it in the classroom. It’s also great to help people achieve the score they want on the TOEFL exam.”

What are some of your hobbies?

“I like reading, writing, and listening to music. My most recent book is K at Liberation.”

What languages do you speak?

“I speak English, a little Spanish, and decent Korean.”

What specialized training do you have?

“I am CELTA certified and a Cambridge examiner here in Hawaii. I got my Masters in rhetoric.”

What do you love about Hawaii?

“I like that the people are friendly. I also like the different English courses in Hawaii you can take at Global Village Hawaii.”

What experience do you have with TOEIC and TOEFL?

“I have decades of experience with TOEIC and TOEFL. I ‘ve taught them to kids and I’ve helped many students improve their scores on the TOEIC test and the TOEFL test. I’ve also taught many private lessons to help students with taking the IELTS exam.”

 

Teacher 2: Tony

 

Second, let me introduce to you another teacher, Tony (pseudonym). He has worked at Global Village Hawaii for many years. He’s helped many students who are taking the TOEFL and TOEIC test in Hawaii.

Where are you from?

“I’m from Southern California originally.”

Where have you lived?

“I’ve lived in Japan, Mexico, and Canada.”

What is your best memory of teaching?

“Well, I love seeing lower-level students become higher and then getting jobs in which they need a higher proficiency. They often get these jobs by taking the IELTS or a Cambridge exam here in Hawaii.”

What do you love most about teaching?

“I love learning from the different students’ cultures. Teachers can also learn a lot from their students!”

What are some of your hobbies?

“I like most water sports and cooking. I cook entrees and mostly Asian-inspired cuisine.”

What languages do you speak?

“I speak Japanese, English, and Spanish.”

What specialized training do you have?

“I have a lot of experience with the IELTS exam. Also, I’m a Cambridge and a YLE examiner. I’ve done this at Global Village Hawaii for many years.”

What do you love about Hawaii?

“I love the cultural diversity. There’s so much to learn from all the people who come here from different countries. It is a great place to learn English.

What experience do you have with TOEIC and TOEFL?

“I teach both at the school here and just love it when students get excited about studying for the TOEIC and TOEFL tests. I get a real kick from seeing students improve their scores.”

 

Teacher 3: Nino

 

Meet Nino. He’s worked at Global Village Hawaii for over half a decade and is our Cambridge Manager. He’s also extremely funny. He has a great sense of humor.

Where are you from?

“Where do I begin? I’m a citizen of the world. I’m from Europe.”

Where have you lived?

“I’ve lived in Europe and the USA.”

What do you love most about teaching?

“I love laughing with my students. We are always learning and laughing. Student have a great time in my class.”

What are some of your hobbies?

“I play sports, read different kinds of books, and play video games. I really like playing RPGs.”

What languages do you speak?

“I speak so many languages! Just to name a few: English, Montenegrin, Serbian, Croatian, Bosnian, Mesopotamian, and Slovenian.”

What specialized training do you have?

“I teach everything from IELTS preparation to TOEIC, TOEFL, Business English and Cambridge courses.”

What do you love about Hawaii?

“I love the weather and the ocean. It’s a great place to learn English!”

What experience do you have with TOEIC and TOEFL?

“I teach both TOIEC and TOEFL. Recently, I helped a student jump up a level and a half in her writing score.”

 

Teacher 4: Roxanne

 

Last, but not least, meet Roxanne. Roxanne is one of our newer teachers here at Global Village Hawaii, but she’s a welcome addition to our family.

Where are you from?

“I’m from Maine, USA”

Where have you lived?

“I’ve lived in Boston, Colombia, and San Diego. I’ve lived many other places, but those are the longest.”

What is your best memory of teaching?

“It’s not a specific memory. I like teaching English because it’s a job that you can do in many different places. The experience is different in the different places, but also similar. I also love watching people experience ‘Aha!’ moments.”

What do you love most about teaching?

“I love meeting new people and helping students learn new things.”

What are some of your hobbies?

“I like cooking, trying new things and new experiences, and traveling the world.”

What language do you speak?

“I speak English and I studied Spanish.”

What specialized training do you have?

“I have my TESOL certificate from a school in New York City.”

What do you love about Hawaii?

“I love living in a city where people vacation. I also like the feeling of community here at our English school and also around Hawaii. People really care about each other and you can feel it! I also love the outdoors, especially here in Hawaii. Everywhere you go it’s an amazing view!”

 

We’re proud to say our teachers are some of the best out there. They have a lot of experience teaching and focus on what you need to learn the most.
