GV Hawaii student shares his life enriching experience through volunteering in tropical paradise!
Here is a testimonial from one of our students, Shingo who volunteered at the Lyon Arboretum’s visitor center. The Lyon Arboretum is a 200-acre arboretum and botanical garden managed by the University of Hawai’i at Manoa.
Shingo says “I had a good experience through volunteering at the arboretum. At first, it was hard for me because I look like a local staff so most of the visitors mainly from mainland U.S. or Australia talk to me in natural speed English. But soon I got used to it and I could explain to them that I am here to learn English as well as volunteer experience. Volunteering is also a good opportunity for me to meet local people and find new connections because I am interested in business in Hawaii. So this program gave me a bright future. It is ok to study English only in the classroom but I think if you have a chance, it’s best if you can give it a try and see the world outside of the classroom. There are much things to learn and gain for your future.”
